The Shipping / Receiving Specialist coordinates and executes all inbound and outbound logistics for our record pressing plant. Working both independently and collaboratively, this role manages warehouse inventory, raw material handling, and freight optimization while maintaining meticulous digital records. This position bridges the gap between production and the customer, ensuring that heavy raw materials (PVC compounds, printed components, etc.) arrive smoothly and delicate finished goods (vinyl records and packaging) depart flawlessly.

● Position Title: Shipping / Receiving Specialist

● Position Type: Full-Time / Non-Exempt (Hourly)

● Location: Asheville, NC

● Compensation Range: Intermediate

● Reports To: Warehouse Manager / Production Manager

● Travel: None required

● Supervisory Responsibility: None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Shipping & Freight Logistics

● Prepare, pack, and secure finished vinyl records, box sets, and print materials for transit, adhering to strict quality controls to prevent warping or scuffing.

● Generate accurate shipping labels, commercial invoices, Bill of Lading (BOL) documents, and packing lists using carrier portals (parcel and LTL freight platforms).

● Review, verify, and route incoming shipments; inspect for damage, log shortages, and communicate immediately with shippers and the Warehouse Manager to resolve discrepancies.

Inventory & Material Management

● Manage, track, and stage bulk raw materials, including PVC pellets, center labels, jackets, and inner/outer sleeves.

● Maintain accurate inventory counts of all shipping and packaging supplies to prevent production bottlenecks.

● Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts safely to load/unload freight trailers and organize the warehouse layout.

● Maintain digital spreadsheets and inventory logs, accurately tracking production outputs, warehouse locations, and PVC scrap/regrind rates.

Plant Operations & Safety

● Maintain a clean, organized, and dust-minimized warehouse environment to protect sensitive vinyl and print packaging.

● Execute facility maintenance duties as needed, including waste disposal, recycling management, and staging materials for the production floor.

● Cross-train with production and packaging teams to provide flexible support across the plant during peak operational periods.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

● Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

● Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a warehouse, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing environment.

● Certifications: Valid Forklift Operator Certification required, with at least 1 year of active forklift experience.

● Licensing: Valid driver’s license required.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

● Technical Literacy: Proficiency with computers, including spreadsheet management (Excel/Google Sheets) and experience navigating inventory management systems (WMS/ERP) or carrier software.

● Mathematical Competency: Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure to calculate freight weights, inventory counts, ratios, and scrap percentages.

● Communication & Detail: Strong written and verbal communication skills; extreme attention to detail when verifying catalog numbers, quantities, and shipping addresses.

● Adaptability: A proactive, open-minded team player capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods, use hands to handle or feel delicate materials, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 55 pounds (such as bulk PVC bags and heavy boxes of records). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision (for identifying jacket variants/vinyl colors), peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
