Record Store Day Releases pressed at CV

Record Store Day is a twice-annual event to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store." The next iteration is Saturday, April 18.

Part of what makes Record Store Day so special are the three categories of Record Store Day releases

• EXCLUSIVES
: These titles are physically released only at indie record stores.
RSD FIRST: These titles are found first at indie record stores but may be released to other retailers or webstores at some point in the future.
SMALL RUN/REGIONAL TITLES: These titles are either regionally based and sold at specific stores, or are press runs under 1000.

Below are some of the RSD titles Citizen Vinyl has proudly pressed:

Journey To The Center Of The Mind
by The Amboy Dukes

The second studio album from psyche / garage rockers The Amboy Dukes, Journey to the Center of the Mind was originally released in April 1968 on Mainstream Records. It was re-issued by Sundazed for RSD 2024 and pressed by Citizen Vinyl on Hookah Glass Blue vinyl. About the album: "The Amboy Dukes combine hard rock and psychedelic mayhem into an early concept album - one that features Ted Nugent’s heavy proto-metal sound. It’s said that the magic is in Bob Shad’s producing these thunderous sounds like a jazz album!"

Indoor Safari
by Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets

The songs on Indoor Safari were "collected from Nick and Los Straitjackets performances on the road with Elvis Costello in 2022," said Yep Roc of this 2024 Record Store Day release. "This is the first non-holiday Nick Lowe live album to be physically released on vinyl in his storied career. The LP features liner notes from Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets." It was initially pressed on pink and purple splatter vinyl by Citizen Vinyl!

Pink Elephants on Parade
by Sun Ra

"Jazz aficionados and Disney nerds alike will marvel at how seamlessly Sun Ra and his Arkestra put their own unique twist on both well-known and overlooked Disney songs," writes Sundazed Records of this 2024 Record Staore Day release. "Pink Elephants on Parade takes nine songs from Disney’s storied catalog and recontextualizes them as beautiful, fun, and sometimes terrifying pieces of Afrofuturist jazz." The collection was culled from previously unheard Sun Ra archives and pressed on pink vinyl by Citizen Vinyl.

Moving to Heaven
by Tommy McLain

The story of how Tommy McLain's Moving to Heaven came to be is an adventure tale worthy of a film script. Originally self-released in 2003 as a 500-CD run, it was later discovered by Elvis Costello in a Louisiana record store (second Elvis Costello shout-out in this Record Store Day story, for those who are keeping count). Yep Roc released the first-ever vinyl pressing of the swamp-pop gem for Record Store Day in 2024. It was pressed on heavenly blue vinyl by Citizen Vinyl.
